Gatwick Airport station evacuated after train catches fire as services stopped

Gatwick Airport rail station has been evacuated after a train caught fire with smoke seen pouring from under the carriage. Emergency services were scrambled to the scene, with disruption expected to last until 3pm today. National Rail warned: “Emergency services dealing with an incident at Gatwick Airport means trains are currently unable to call at the station.
“No trains can call at Gatwick Airport until further notice. Please leave at least 30 minutes extra as you may have to use alternative providers to complete your journey.”. BBC Radio 5 Live presenter Clare McDonnell shared a video on X of smoke billowing out from under the carriage.
