Joanna Page has spilled the beans on ditching her Gavin and Stacey co-star Ruth Jones for a night with wildlife, as she gets stuck into her quirky new hobby. The Welsh star chatted to the TV Times about her passion for nature, which led her to skip Ruth's live performance.

Joanna is diving into a 15-part BBC series, Joanna Page's Wild Life, where she'll learn the ropes at a Wildlife Aid hospital. She confessed to choosing an evening with a baby owl over supporting Ruth, quipping: "One evening, I was supposed to see Ruth Jones in the musical Sister Act but cancelled to be with a baby owl!".

With the curtain closed on Gavin and Stacey after the Christmas special finale, Joanna shared how her role in the wildlife series wasn't quite what she expected, admitting: "I thought it would be like a Disney film, cuddling cute cubs and robins landing on me!".

She added: "In the beginning, I broke all the rules as I named the animals and couldn't stop talking to them. I had to retrain myself because your aim is to make them better and release them back into the wild, not for them to feel relaxed around humans.".

Joanna, who cut her teeth on stage, later made waves on the big screen in hits like From Hell, Mine All Mine, Love Actually, and Miss Julie. However, Joanna Page is best known for her role as Stacey Shipman in the hit BBC sitcom, Gavin and Stacey, alongside Matthew Horne, James Corden and Ruth Jones.

During a recent appearance on The One Show, Joanna revealed what made her fall in love with the character of Stacey 17 years ago: "I just opened this script and I thought 'I know this person'. To actually have something were I could be Welsh, I could use my own voice, you just feel closer to the character and I thought I know these people (characters in the show).".
