Gordon Ramsay turned his health around at 40 and has never looked back. The celebrity chef, famous for his on-screen rants and TV shows, admitted he was a victim of his own success, and, due to a busy lifestyle saw his health tumble to the bottom of the priority list.

Eager to change, and drop weight from his heaviest, reportedly 18-stone, Scottish-born Gordon threw himself into exercise, and is now a self-proclaimed lover of endurance training, having completed marathons and Iron Man competitions. Now, aged 58, the Michelin-starred chef has never been in better shape. Despite paying homage to his more intense exercise regime, a lot can be said about his diet.

Despite being a huge restauranteur, his diet does not consist of fancy, fine-dining foods you'd see served up to customers. His diet is basic, but not lacking. Speaking to Jason Fox from SAS: Who Dares Wins, in an interview with Men's Health, Gordon revealed exactly how he maintains his physique, and better overall health. He said: "Good food doesn't have to be boring food, and healthy food never has to be fad food. I love eating. We have a protein shake in the morning, scrambled eggs for lunch, and then something poached for dinner, whether it's poached chicken or fish. We don't do lots of salads but it's finding that balance.".

His determination to eat a healthy and balanced diet doesn't come easy, especially in the environment of a busy kitchen. While it's important to try dishes that are being rustled up, to ensure they are of the quality Gordon desires, he does adopt one simple trick. And that's to have two mouthfuls, maximum, before either removing himself from the situation or the plate of food. He added: "The role of a chef today is way more prolific than it was 20-30 years ago and we need to be fit, we need to be smart, and we need to set that example to the team. We are super disciplined as well.
