Grammys performer apologises for ‘aggressively’ adjusting his crotch on stage

The Beautiful Things singer, 22, sang his hit song at the ceremony – but it wasn’t his impressive vocals that had people talking. The singer’s performance featured a moment in which model Heidi Klum and comedian Nikki Glaser ripped off Benson’s clothes to reveal a form-fitting blue jumpsuit. Moments later, he backflipped off a piano.

Despite the theatrics, all anyone seemed to remember about the performance was the moment Benson ‘aggressively’ grabbed his crotch to adjust his manhood in the skintight outfit. He has since confessed the ensemble was ‘extremely restricting’ in ‘certain areas.’. Taking to his Instagram story, the singer shared a topless photo of himself captioned: ‘Sorry for adjusting my jumpsuit so aggressively on stage tonight that thing was extremely restricting in certain areas.’.

The faux pas was widely discussed and joked about online. X user @MrsCharatan humorously posted: ‘He fixed his little Benson!’. @theheatherettes joked: ‘Wait… Does Benson’s crotch have its own website and media manager yet?!?!’. @Fitteraccount31 added: ‘Guess those are the beautiful things he won’t shut up about.’. Riffing on the lyrics of the hit song, @rhenz17 posted a clip of the readjustment and wrote: ‘Benson Boone and this beautiful thing that he’s got at the #GRAMMYs’.

But some people found the moment distasteful, with X user @12yearoldlamb writing: ‘Couldn’t have waited 3 minutes till getting off the stage. What happened to Decroum?’. @Ghosstiii agreed: ‘The way he could’ve waited till he was off stage…’. Benson was a nominee at the ceremony but lost out on the Best New Artist prize to pop princess Chappell Roan. Speaking on the red carpet before the performance, Benson admitted to People Magazine that he had a lot of ‘nervous energy.’.

He said: ‘I’m doing really good. As you can tell there’s a lot of energy flowing through my body right now. ‘This is very crazy for me. There’s a lot of cool people here. I’m really excited to perform. I’m kind of like… crapping my pants right now.’. He continued: ‘In between four-and-a-half and five years ago I discovered I could sing. Ever since then I do it every day. It’s like my greatest passion and I’m just happy that I could make a living out of it.’.

It was an eventful night at the star-studded event, with Kanye West’s wife Bianca Censori wearing a dress that revealed the entirety of her nude body and Beyonce winning her first ever album of the year Grammy Award at her fifth attempt. But knowing the internet’s sense of humour, it’s likely that Benson’s adjustment will be remembered just as vividly as any other significant moment from the ceremony.
