Harry Kane's cut-price release clause opens door to sensational Premier League return

Harry Kane will have his release clause activated next January which means a Premier League club could bring him back to England in a cut-price deal. The Bayern Munich star is only into his second season in the Bundesliga following a club-record switch from Tottenham. That put his hopes of breaking the Premier League goalscoring record on hold but Kane had a release clause inserted into his contract.
The 31-year-old remains at the peak of his powers, scoring 44 times in his debut season in Germany, and a club could've triggered a release clause in the January transfer window that would have allowed him to leave the Allianz Arena for around €80million (£67m). Whilst that deadline has now passed another release clause will be valid in 12 months time - at an even more reduced rate with Bild reporting it will be as low as €65m (£54m).
Despite that Kane, who has a contract with Bayern until June 2027, is currently happy in Germany and is averaging nearly a goal per game across his 72 appearances. Earlier this season he became the fastest player to reach 50 Bundesliga goals - breaking the record held by Erling Haaland. Kane's decision to move to the German giants was motivated by a desire to win trophies with honours eluding him throughout his career. Bayern endured a rare trophyless season last term and their striker will want to atone for that before contemplating any departure.
A return to England will remain tempting for the England skipper though with Alan Shearer's all-time goalscoring record within reach. Kane currently has 213 Premier League goals to his name - just 47 behind Shearer's tally as he sits in second place. Several top strikers, the likes of Karim Benzema and Robert Lewandowski, have proved that frontmen can remain at their peaks well into their 30s which means time is still on Kane's side. He address the Premier League record before leaving England and maintained he had time to return and give it a crack.
He said: “People will talk about the record and Shearer, but I've got plenty of football left in my career. For now, it's about trying to achieve things here and trying to push myself and the team to try and reach new levels with this club. That's all my focus is on right now.”.
