A man has died days before Christmas in a horror crash on a residential street. The man, who was in his 50s, was knocked from his bicycle at around 7am in Solihull, West Midlands. Despite the best efforts of paramedics, he was declared dead at the scene, just eight days before Christmas.
Roads in Solihull and the neighbouring Sheldon area of Birmingham were closed today as police investigated the collision. West Midlands Constabulary has urged anyone with any information or footage to get in touch with officers. Two ambulances and a critical care car dashed to the scene, where paramedics desperately tried to revive the man. The driver of the only car involved did not require treatment, reports Birmingham Live.
Speaking earlier today, Ade Adeyemo, Liberal Democrat councillor for Lyndon Ward, said: "My thoughts and condolences go out to the family and friends of the cyclist. Sadly, someone has lost their life today. We will be doing all we can to support their family and friends at this sad time.".
Tributes have been flooding in online. One man wrote: "RIP Cyclist…..my thoughts go out to your family." Another Solihull resident put simply: "Heartbreaking." A third Facebook user added: "My heart goes out to his love ones!". Officers continue to investigate the crash, which happened on a long residential road used locally to travel between the Olton area of Solihull and the Sheldon neighbourhood of Birmingham. It is often used to access or leave the busy A45 which connects Birmingham with Coventry, bypassing the centre of Solihull itself.
