Saffron Cole-Nottage lost her footing and drowned when she slipped on a treacherous coastal path in a 'freak' tragedy. Efforts to save the mum-of-three sadly failed when she got into trouble walking on a slippery concrete ledge on an 'ice rink' path at the base of the sea wall in Lowestoft, Suffolk, on Sunday evening. It is thought she became trapped between huge boulders at the base of the wall, with rescuers from the coastguard, police and air ambulance unable to reach her in time.

Devastating tributes were left at the scene of the tragic accident, including from Saffron's partner Mike Wheeler and from her children. Here's all we know about the much-loved mother... Devoted parent Saffron lived with her partner Michael and children, having recently moved from Gillingham in Kent to Lowestoft. She worked in a Gillingham pub called the Canterbury Tales. She was mum to daughters Jessica, 11 and Jasmine, 7, plus a baby boy, reportedly born just a few months ago. In a painfully clear sign of how much the 'amazing' woman will be missed, Saffron's children penned a heartbreaking final goodbye to their beloved 'mummy' in a card left at the scene.

One handwritten message read: "My beautiful mummy, I love you the world" and another said: "Mummy, love you" and a third said: "Dear mum, thank you for all that you have done for me. Love you lots, we will all miss you loads.". Saffron's partner Michael, 42, also paid tribute. "My darling Saff. What can I really say, there are no words to express how much we will miss you," he wrote. "The world is so cruel and to take you in this freak horrific way will not sit well with me for the rest of my life. You will be forever missed by so many and I'm really not sure I'll ever be the same without you. Me and the kids will love you and never forget you, until we meet again.".

Tributes from more relatives and friends of the 32-year-old were carefully placed where they lost her, saying Saffron was ''beautiful", "amazing" and "forever 32". One read: "U really are my best auntie" and another called Saffron "my beautiful daughter-in-law", saying: "Your light shined bright down here and you'll shine bright up there". A friend told the Daily Mail of the tragic accident: "I believe she was out with her dog and was walking on the path when she slipped and got trapped. I think she had one daughter with her. It must have been horrific.".

The area Saffron was walking on is thought to have been off-limits to pedestrians because of the dangers it poses - the huge boulders made of slippery granite and the concrete surface of the path covered with moss and, at times, icy. Signs and a barrier are said to be in place warning people not to attempt to walk there. The emergency services received a call reporting Saffron had fallen into the sea at 8pm on Sunday, when temperatures were below freezing. Suffolk Police, HM Coastguard rescue officers from Lowestoft, the East of England Ambulance Service and the East Anglian Air Ambulance formed part of the huge rescue attempt.
