A general in charge of Vladimir Putin’s nuclear troops has been killed by a bomb planted inside an electric scooter by Ukraine’s secret services, sources have confirmed. Lieutenant General Igor Kirillov and his assistant were blown up outside his apartment building around four miles from the Kremlin in Moscow.
The explosive was triggered remotely, Russia’s news agency Tass reported, citing unnamed sources in the emergency services. Kirillov was chief of Russia’s Nuclear, Biological and Chemical Protection Forces. An ex-secret service officer for Ukraine told Metro that the assassination was carried out by counter intelligence officers.
‘The liquidation of the chief of the radiation and chemical protection troops of the Russian Federation is the work of the SBU,’ another source also told Reuters. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video.
