This article contains spoilers for Tuesday February 4’s episode of Hollyoaks, now available to watch on All4. The end is nigh for evil Hollyoaks villain Abe Fielding (Tyler Conti) – and this week’s episodes of the popular soap are proving a very dramatic final rollercoaster for him. Now, Tyler’s colleague Rory Douglas-Speed, who plays brother and nemesis Joel Dexter, has confirmed that the exit is a spectacular one.
He told us: ‘It’s going to be a very big ending for, I’d say one of the best actors and characters we’ve introduced to the show as a villain for a long time. ‘I don’t think the audience are going to be let down by the execution of it and it was an amazing thing to be a part of.’. There are still some mega-twists set to play out, but in the latest visit to the show, we have seen Abe survive the car crash he and mum Marie (Rita Simons) were involved in.
Pulled aggressively from the wreckage by Joel, he was pummelled by the firsts of his sibling, who only stopped when Marie screamed at him not to go any further. It’s a side of Joel that Rory is keen to explore further as viewers will be left taken aback by how violent he becomes.
‘We’ve been asking to see Joel tap into that Warren Fox presence for a while,’ he smiled. ‘I think you really see it this week because it’s something so close to his heart. ‘He’s had to dive into that old version of himself, which I quite enjoyed. There’s obviously a big sequence after the crash where you really think what’s Joel going to do here is he going to end things for Abe or not.
‘It was class to film, but I don’t think I suit playing angry. I’ve got to punch this non-existent person it was like a punch bag or something. I’ve not seen it but I’m excited to tune in!’. While Joel doesn’t go as far as murder, Abe is far from out of the woods. Having bundled the rapist and abuser into the boot of his car, Joel has his keys swiped by Cleo McQueen (Nadine Mulkerrin). We then see her, assisted by Sienna Blake (Anna Passey), close in on her tormentor in the very room he held her in for over a year.
