Manchester United host struggling Southampton tonight with both sides looking to get back to winning ways in the Premier League. United come into the clash against the league's bottom-placed side fresh off the back of their confidence-boosting FA Cup triumph away to Arsenal. Ruben Amorim's side had to endure a tense penalty shootout to clinch a place in the fourth round after a hard-fought 120 minutes saw the tie locked at 1-1, with United also down to 10 men.
While the Gunners missed a penalty in the 90 minutes, Amorim will have no doubt been happy with how his side stuck in the game and grounded out the win. It's the second game in a row, following the Red Devils' impressive performance away in a 2-2 draw with arch-rivals Liverpool, where United have shown the sort of grit fans have not seen for some time – however, they haven't won in the league since beating Manchester City in mid-December.
The Saints, meanwhile, are yet to win in the Premier League under their new manager Ivan Juric. Defeats to West Ham and Crystal Palace, along with a 5-0 humiliation at home to Brentford, have meant the former Torino and Roma coach has endured a baptism of fire since coming to St Mary's.
However, Southampton did book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup, while claiming Juric's first win, with a 3-0 victory over Swansea City. The last time United and Southampton met in the league was in September, when a routine 3-0 triumph for United was played out in front of now ex-managers Erik ten Hag and Russell Martin.
