TWO political prisoners are set to be barbarically executed in Iran after being thrown in prison on trumped-up charges. Insiders say paranoid Iranian leaders are hellbent on ramping up repression on home turf in a dramatic bid to stamp out rebellion. It comes as Iran's regime has been left red-faced by the downfall of Syria’s dictatorship as well as severe defeats of its terror proxies.
Executions are said to be taking place every couple of hours as Iran slaughters its people in "unprecedented numbers". Behrouz Ehsani, 69, and Mehdi Hassani, 48, were handed death sentences in September over their alleged membership of the People's Mojahedin Organisation of Iran - a banned opposition party.
After receiving his death sentence, Ehsani vowed he was "ready" to sacrifice his life in a bid for freedom for the Iranian people. He said: "This execution-driven regime cannot offer anything else. "I will not bargain over my life with anyone and am ready to sacrifice my insignificant life for the liberation of the Iranian people.".
In what outraged campaigners have branded an "unjust trial", both were convicted of collecting classified information, conspiracy against national security and possession of firearms, among other charges. Father-of-three Hassani was arrested in September and suffered torture in Evin Prison.
Ehsani was also tortured in the same prison following his arrest in December 2022. They have both now been forcibly moved to Qezelhessar Prison - where executions are notoriously taken out after their sentences were upheld this month by the regime's Supreme Court.
