A man revealed how his relationship with his girlfriend fell apart due to her growing jealousy over the bond he shared with his pet cat. The man, 28, who appears to be from the US, opened up on Reddit about his year-long relationship with his girlfriend, which took a strange turn when she issued an ultimatum involving the cat he brought into his home years before they met.

Posting anonymously as u/Usual_Fall_5020 on the popular subreddit, r/AmITheA*****e? on Monday, the man asked fellow Redditors whether he had made an ill-fated decision to break up with his partner over the matter. According to the post, which has since amassed over 260 comments, things had been going well until his 26-year-old girlfriend began showing signs of jealousy towards Jasper, the man's beloved pet.

What started out as occasional comments about the cat's sleeping arrangements and the amount of attention he was given soon escalated into full-blown accusations. Assigning a cover name to his now ex-partner, the man wrote: 'Emily never liked him. She wasn’t allergic or scared of cats; she just… didn’t like the attention I gave him.

'She’d roll her eyes when I talked to him, get annoyed when he sat between us on the couch, and absolutely hated that he slept in bed with us.'. The man revealed Emily would make bizarre comments after observing his interactions with Jasper, such as: 'It’s weird how attached you are to him,' and 'You treat him like a person.'.
