A British man who set himself the challenge of flying to Spain to purchase a bottle of olive oil for less than the product's UK price achieved his ambitious goal with money to spare. Content creator Callum Ryan, who has pulled off similar stunts in the past, including flying to Milan, Italy, to buy a pizza for cheaper than a Dominos delivery, documented his latest mission on TikTok, where he has more than one million followers.

In a video that has been viewed almost 500,000 times, Callum, from Milton Keynes, begins by explaining his goal: 'I set myself the challenge to fly all the way to Spain and buy olive oil for cheaper than the price in the UK. And, well, this is how it went.'. Viewers first see him visiting a local Tesco branch in the UK where he picks up a bottle of olive oil and reveals the price as £7.38. Working on the premise that olive oil, some of which is made in Spain, will be significantly cheaper there, he adds: 'The plan was to spend less than the price of an average bottle of olive oil, which is £7.38 in the UK.'.

Next, Callum explains how he was able to find an incredibly cheap plane ticket to a popular part of Spain: 'However, I managed to get a flight last minute for only £3.90 so I hoped on the plane and headed to Alicante.'. The content creator then sets out what he did upon arrival: 'I explored a little before going to the local supermarkets to see what olive oil they had to offer. 'I decided to buy their own brand olive oil because it was only 2.60 euros, which when converted is £2.19.'.

I flew all the way to Spain 🇧🇷 bought olive oil and flew back for cheaper than the UK! 👏🏻🫒 #Thatonecal #Oliveoil #Thatonevlogs #Spain #Viral. Given that Callum's outbound flight cost £3.90 and the olive oil purchased in Alicante cost £2.19, his running total is £6.09.

In order to successfully complete the challenge, he therefore needs to find a flight back to the UK that costs no more than £1.29. And, while that seems impossibly cheap for the 784 mile journey, the travel enthusiast amazingly manages to find an EasyJet flight for even less. He says: 'But now it's time for the important part. It's time to get my flight home. And you're not going to believe this but my flight home was only £1!.

'I've never seen a flight this cheap in my entire life, so I hopped on it and headed home.'. As the 40 second clip comes to an end, the caption 'Fly to Spain and buy olive oil - £7.09' appears on the screen along with a very happy Callum. The content creator succeeded, spending only £7.09 on the trip to Alicante and the olive oil purchased there. A bottle of olive oil in the UK, meanwhile, costs £7.38.

Clutching his £2.19 bottle of olive oil and punching the air, he says: 'Which only meant one thing: We did it!  We flew to Spain and bought olive oil for cheaper than the price in the UK.'. But while many of Callum's followers were impressed by his feat, congratulating him in the comments section, some people were sceptical about the content creator's claim to have spent no more than £7.09 on the entire jaunt - including the olive oil.

One person stated sarcastically: 'That's a long walk too and from the airport.'. While another commented in a similar vein: 'Now add everything else in that you spent on the trip.'. A third person was dubious about Callum's methodology, writing: 'He bought a 250ml bottle but was comparing it to the price of [a] 750ml bottle in the UK. Living in Spain, I can tell you that oil prices here are comparable these days.'.

A fourth agreed: 'I live in Spain and it's not cheap'. Some eagle-eyed TikTokers who noticed that the olive oil Callum purchased in Spain was, at 250ml, too large to be packed in hand luggage and taken on board the plane wondered how he managed to avoid putting it in the hold. TkTok users were quick to comment on Callum's challenge. While some congratulated him on his feat, others were more sceptical.

One person wrote: 'How did you get through [with a bottle] over 100mls'. Another added: 'All I'm thinking is how did he get a 250ml bottle through with just hand luggage'. The answer, however, was simple - Callum 'split it up' into smaller bottles. Other TikTok users were completely taken with Callum's challenge, with one writing: 'Incredible! Go on mate! I was looking at flying to Milan for the day to get an Italian meal and flying back... didn't cost that much, I should book it!'.
