I listened helplessly as my husband killed my daughter. Then, in the depths of my grief, I learned of his horrifying secret life...

On June 1, 2003, 14-year-old Sam was driven into bushland and repeatedly raped by her stepfather before he deliberately drove into a rock wall on a freeway at high speed, killing them both. They weren't alone during this sickening murder-suicide. Sam's mother Kate Salinger listened helplessly from a landline phone at home as her daughter pleaded for her life in the minutes before she died.
Two decades have passed since that awful day, but the pain is still raw for Kate. It will never go away. Now, for the first time in eight years, she has opened up about her husband's unthinkable act that day, and how in his callous final moments he exposed the shocking secret he'd been keeping from his wife.
He had sexually abused Sam at some point in her early childhood, betraying the trust of the innocent girl who still called him 'dad' even in her final, terrified moments. Twenty-one years later, Sam's memory lives on among her family, including Kate and Sam's two brothers. Not a day goes by where her mother doesn't think of the woman her daughter would have grown up to become.
She will never know - because her life was cut short by acts so evil, Kate refuses to even speak the killer's name. Sam (pictured) would've been 36 next month. In 2003, aged just 14, she was driven into bushland and repeatedly raped by her stepfather before he deliberately drove into a rock wall on a freeway at high speed, killing them both.
