When it comes to Christmas dinner, there's nothing like Brussels sprouts and Christmas pudding to divide opinion between guests. While they may both be a part of the traditional Christmas dinner, these days people are letting go of tradition and satisfying their taste buds instead. A recent survey from Royal Mint discovered that 59 percent of adults who celebrate Christmas don't think the traditional pudding is an important part of Christmas Day.
But what should you serve up instead? We reckon there's enough cooking to do on Christmas Day without having to stress about baking your festive dessert from scratch. So we tasted ready-made showstopper desserts from Tesco, Asda, Morrisons, Lidl, Aldi, Co-op, Sainsbury's and M&S to give you the heads up on what dessert your dinner guests will want to devour this year.
The Best Sticky Toffee Pudding with Caramel Sauce centre (550g), £8, Morrisons. This caramel flavoured sponge certainly looks like a showstopper and boasts a salted caramel centre and edible decorations. Nostalgic, festive and Christmassy, this pudding melts in the mouth.
VERDICT: Perfect for those with a really sweet tooth. SCORE: 7/10. Specially Selected Belgian Chocolate Melt in the middle Puddings (2 x 100g), £2.49, Aldi. These rich and indulgent puddings are made from Belgian chocolate sponge and boast a dark, velvety chocolate centre. They're the cheapest on the menu but sadly, I was more wowed by the price than the taste.
