A man thought he rescued a cat from the street but it turned out to be a different animal entirely. In a video shared on the Lucky Angel TikTok page, which posts clips of animal rescues, a tiny baby animal can be seen walking along a road in America before it is picked up by the man, who is anonymous. The video headline is “I picked up a cat on the street but it was actually a fox.”. Although the animal bares resemblance to a kitten due to its ears, nose and fluffy coat, the caption of the post reveals that it is a baby fennec fox. Many people in the comment section couldn’t believe it was a fox, not a cat or kitten.
The TikTok video documents the baby fennec’s growth from being picked up off the road to being a happy, healthy fox in a loving home. The man firstly picks the poor baby fox up then takes it home to wash its fur. He then keeps it warm and dry in a furry blanket before placing it on a weighing scale to discover that it weighs a tiny 40g. The fox can then be seen sleeping in its own bed in its new home and next the owner feeds the tiny animal using a syringe.
After this, the baby fox is given a bath and it looks straight at the camera with its big, black eyes, pointed ears and whiskers. It then enjoys some play time with a pretend bone toy that it tries to grab with its mouth. The fox is now visibly cleaner and healthier than before as it lays in its owner’s lap and plays with the man, who strokes and tickles the small animal. In the next clip the fox walks towards the owner’s cat, who is much bigger than it, but it surprisingly causes the feline to back away before running out of the room.
Throughout the rest of the video, the fennec fox is noticeably bigger, having grown in size and age and it plays in its home with toys and adorably cuddles up to its owner on the sofa. The TikTok video has amassed a staggering 38 million views, 2.9 million likes and more than 18,000 comments. One puzzled user asked: “Do I need glasses bc (because) that was 100% a kitten and then it was a fox. I was like wait a dang minute.”.
Another questioned: “What on earth was a baby fennec fox doing on the road in America.” Meanwhile, a third said: “I wouldn’t have believed this if I hadn’t looked up newborn fennec fox.”. The fennec fox is a small fox native to the deserts of North Africa and its most distinctive feature is its unusually large ears. It is also the smallest of all the world’s foxes, according to the National Geographic.
