A woman took to social media to ask what to do after her first visit to her date's home left her feeling uncomfortable after finding 'gross' room. Going to your date's house for the first time is a big deal. Their home often gives you a further insight into their personality - which you might not have noticed while going out for drinks or dinner. Of course, you should want to learn everything there is to know about the person you are dating, from the good to the bad. But what do you do if you learn something that puts you off them?.
One person turned to Mumsnet for help, asking if she was overreacting after she went to her date's home for the first time. But it didn't go as well as planned, as she claimed she was shocked and put off by the state the guy had left his bathroom in. "I've been seeing this guy for a month, he seemed pretty sorted, good job, intelligent etc.," she started. "BUT went round to his house last night for the first time and I was shocked at the state of his bathroom, he was off yesterday and knew I was coming round a few days in advance so he easily could have cleaned it.".
She explained that, while she didn't want to go into any further details of the state of the room, there were bits of hair covering the floor and the toilet was 'awful'. "I feel a bit sick thinking about it and I didn't even want to go in there to use the toilet," she shared. "How could he go into his bathroom and think it was ok to let a potential date go into that, wasn't he embarrassed, obviously not!".
Revealing her date wants to see her again, she shared that she wasn't sure what to do as the bathroom situation had put her off him, and went on to ask the forum if she was overreacting. However, she soon had her feelings reassured as people said she was completely in the right for reacting the way she did. One person said: "You don't expect to have to train an adult man about keeping their bathroom clean. One month in so it's not a serious relationship yet- I'd dump him. But if he asks why I'd be honest.".
"Of course it would put absolutely every person in the planet off I would hope," a second person said, while a third added: Oh goodness, that's repulsive. To say it would put me off would be putting it mildly. I'd run a mile.". The original poster replied to the comments, saying: "Fair enough if he's living on his own to have bathroom like that, but to have a woman round and go into that, pretty shameful and revealing of his character too. I don't want to describe what the toilet was like but you can use your imagination.".
