Idris Elba has suggested that more could be done to make kitchen knives safer in order to reduce crime rates across the UK. During the radio show, the 52-year-old Luther star suggested that removing the point on some kitchen knives may help tackle the issue at hand.
“Not all kitchen knives need to have a point on them, that sounds like a crazy thing to say," he said during the show, "but you can still cut your food without the point on your knife, which is an innovative way to look at it.”. The dad of three admitted that it may not solve all the issues, but it’s something that should be looked into in a “country in crisis.”.
The first month of 2025 has also seen a number of violent knife incidents across the capital, including the murder of 14-year-old schoolboy Kelyan Bokassa on a London bus. Another teenager was also left fighting for his life on January 1 after he was stabbed with a knife in the early hours of New Year’s Day.
Mr Elba, who is also fronting a new BBC show called Idris Elba: Our Knife Crime Crisis, has been a vocal advocate for the banning of zombie knives as well as calling for more to be done to tackle the knife crisis. In his new documentary, the actor spends 12 months speaking to young offenders, families of victims, police and authorities to learn more about ongoing knife crime.
