If you're one of the many people who has made it their mission to be healthier in 2025, then you'll probably want to hear this handy advice. A weight loss expert called Thomas Whitehead made an informative Instagram reel on the topic and posted it with his 66,900 followers.

He pointed out that there are many conflicting pieces of advice out there – including people telling you to avoid fruit or carbs if you hope to shed the pounds. Thomas also debunked the myth that "calories aren't as important as the amount of carbs you eat". He said: "If you believe any of the things I've just said, you should seriously consider dropping me a follow, because I post videos like this pretty much every day, debunking these stupid myths and making fat loss a lot easier for you.".

Instead, Thomas outlined the three guidelines he tends to stick to. First was to "try and make up 90% of your diet from single-ingredient foods. He added: "Make sure that they're foods you actually enjoy.". Next, he makes sure to get plenty of protein "because it helps preserve your muscle mass, keeps you nice and full, and it is good for your metabolism".

Then finally, he said it's crucial to be in a calorie deficit if you want to lose weight. This means taking in less calories than you're burning off.
