Does your antiperspirant give you a taste for Greek poetry? Are your armpits worthy of demigod Achilles or that great beauty, Helen of Troy?. If so, you’re probably already familiar with the latest luxury deodorant from London brand To My Ships. Its Of The Gods Polygonum Roll-On Deodorant is part of a range inspired by Homer’s 8th Century BC epic, The Iliad (yes, really) and promises to keep armpit odour at bay for 24 hours with a ‘green citrus fragrance’ (although polygonum odoratum is a herb related to Lily of the Valley).

Spurious ancient text references aside, at £35 (tomyships.com), it’s certainly not to be, um, sniffed at. While you probably don’t usually give much thought to your armpits – especially in winter – many brands are now targeting our underarms with luxe deodorants featuring ingredients more commonly found in high-end serums.

And, personally, I can’t get enough. I first entered the world of posh deodorants after an advert for Salt & Stone’s roll-on followed me aggressively around Instagram. At £20 (saltandstone.com), the Santal & Vetiver deodorant was certainly pricier than my usual £4 Dove aerosol, but with seaweed extracts, hydrating hyaluronic acid and probiotics (which some claim improve the smell of sweat), it felt like quite an upgrade.

London brand To My Ships' Of The Gods Polygonum Roll-On Deodorant is part of a range inspired by Homer’s 8th Century BC epic, The Iliad. Oh, and it smelled amazing - more like an expensive perfume or a luxury candle than a deodorant. Whenever I caught a whiff of myself it was a little burst of sensory smugness.
