Vera fans were left devastated earlier this year when it was announced that Brenda Blethyn, who has portrayed DCI Vera Stanhope since the show's inception, had quit, meaning the ITV drama would be coming to an end. With only two episodes remaining in season 14, viewers are eager to know who will join the cast for the first episode.
One new addition to the Vera cast is Chief Superintendent Khalon, played by Shobna Gulati. Described by Blethyn as "rather severe", Khalon's character brings a positive change for Vera by offering her a promotion. Coronation Street fans may recognise Gulati from her role as Sunita Alahan, and she recently starred in the hit musical Everybody's Talking About Jamie.
Kevin Whately, best known for his roles in Auf Wiedersehen Pet, Inspector Morse, Lewis, and Peak Practice. He will portray retired detective Gary Creelan in the upcoming episode of Vera. Lastly, Chelsea Halfpenny, known for her role as Alicia Munroe in BBC's Casualty from 2015 to 2019, will play Kimberly Martin but details about her character remain under wraps.
Before this, she was known for her four-year stint as Amy Wyatt in Emmerdale and is now engaged to fellow Emmerdale actor James Baxter, with whom she has a child. Additionally, Halfpenny is the niece of Jill Halfpenny, a former star of EastEnders and Coronation Street.
Michelle Holmes, an actress familiar with the soap world, will join the 14th season cast as Erika Rowlins. She's previously played Tina Fowler in Coronation Street in 1989, Britt Woods in Emmerdale in 1995, and more recently, Maggie Kinsella in Hollyoaks on Channel 4.
