Jake Paul has hinted he will make his return to the boxing ring in the summer after a report claiming he will fight Canelo Alvarez in May. 'The Problem Child' is eager to get back in the squared-circle and revealed back in December that he will announce his next opponent in January. Fans were forced to wait the majority of the month before hinting he would square off with older brother, Logan Paul. That said, just a day later, the Paul brothers cleared up and addressed any confusion by announcing they will not fight each other and will instead star in a new reality TV show. With the 28-year-old still waiting for an opponent, boxing journalist Julius Julianis sensationally reported on Monday that Paul and Canelo agreed to go head-to-head in May for a Cinco de Mayo event.

Julianis revealed the proposed Paul vs. Alvarez fight will be co-promoted by Most Valuable Promotions, Premier Boxing Champions (PBC), and Canelo Promotions. That said, the American himself was quick to take to social media to reveal his exact date and location ahead of his next bout - which completely contradict the initial Alvarez fight reports. In a recent post uploaded to X - formerly known as Twitter - Paul posted. “It’s time. Sat July 5 New York, New York.” As of yet, an opponent is yet to be confirmed. The date may be a tad late for Canelo after he reportedly secured a September date with Terence Crawford.

The Mexican will likely return to the ring in May for his traditional Cinco de Mayo weekend bout. IBF champion William Scull and undefeated sensation Christian Mbilli have emerged as likely opponents. With just 12 professional fights under his belt, Paul has taken the sport of boxing by storm since his professional debut back in 2020. His toughest test inside the ring came in his seventh outing against Tommy Fury. Despite scoring a knockdown in the final round, Paul suffered the first defeat of his professional career, losing via split decision in Saudi Arabia.

The American hasn't fought since defeating Mike Tyson back in November. Paul is hoping to go on and achieve many remarkable accolades in the sport before he eventually decides to call it a day - which isn't that far away. The 28-year-old has announced he intends to walk away from the sport after the 2028 Olympic Games in Los Angeles, providing he's allowed to compete. In an interview with RING CHAMPS, when asked about his retirement plans, Paul said: "I don't think it'll be after winning a world title. I'm going to try and figure out how to fight in the 2028 Olympics and win gold and then I think I'll retire." When pressed on the division he'd compete in at the Games, Paul replied: "It's in kilograms, so 80-90 something. The one under heavyweight.
