Jamie Carragher has slammed the standard of goalkeeping in the Premier League following Brentford's own-goal against Tottenham. The Bees fell behind to a Ange Postecoglou's side at the Gtech Community Stadium when Vitaly Janelt turned the ball into his own net from Son Heung-min's corner. Bees goalkeeper Hakon Valdimarsson, who stepped in for the injured Mark Flekken, failed to take control in the box and the ball came off Janelt's back.

Carragher said on Sky Sports: 'I actually the level of goalkeeping in the Premier League right now is as bad as it's been. I see so many goals go in. 'We are in an era last two-three years where there's been more goals scored than ever before. I feel the level of goalkeeping is a big part of that.'. The former Liverpool defender added: 'The goalkeeper's (Valdimarsson) starting position is just wrong. We see this a lot now, so many players in the six yard box.

'As a goalkeeper you got to really be on the other side of the attacking player there. That's just a recipe for disaster, his starting position.'. Micah Richards was also crircityaly of the Brentford goalkeeper's role in Spurs' goal just before the half hour mark. He's not even looking at the ball. He's facing the other way, trying to stop Bissouma and doesn't realise the ball is coming in until it hits him,' Richards said.
