Tottenham's win at Brentford was their first in the Premier League since mid-December, putting Jamie Carragher's pre-match prediction to shame. Vitaly Janelt's own goal gave Spurs a half-time lead at the Gtech Community Stadium, with Pape Matar Sarr making the points safe late on. It helped Ange Postecoglou's side complete a league double over the Bees, easing the pressure on their manager in the process.

Spurs had picked up just one point from their previous seven league outings, conceding 18 times in the process. Brentford, in comparison, had scored nine goals in their previous four outings. All of this led Carragher to confidently predict a home win. The former Liverpool defender made the judgement during Sky Sports' coverage, and was quickly made to eat his words. "I'll be absolutely shocked of Tottenham win there today," Carragher said. "When I look at that back four, they've been decimated." With Mickey van de Ven not ready to return to Premier League action, Spurs had three of their first-choice back-line missing, with regular goalkeeper Guglielmo Vicario also absent, but they kept their opponents at bay.

"They've brought a devender [Kevin Danso] in," he continued.. "I thought Van de Ven was going to be involved today. Obviously they've lost their goalkeeper, they've brought one in [Antonin Kinsky], but when you actually look at that Tottenham back four, if they concede less than three today, I will be surprised. "I'm not criticising them - they're young kids; Ben Davies is in there, he's not a centre-back, he's a left-back. Archie Gray's done brilliantly for them, he's an 18-year-old kid - to go away to Brentford, set pieces, long balls, what you've got to deal with as a centre back...".

Were you surprised by the Spurs result? Have your say in the comments section. Spurs boss Postecoglou singled out Djed Spence for praise after the defender returned to help contain the dangerous Bryan Mbeumo. The former Middlesbrough man was signed as a right-back, but has filled in well on the left after Destiny Udogie's injury. "Since he came into the team he has been outstanding," Postecoglou said of Spence when speaking to Sky Sports post-match. "We missed him the last couple of games but that's the beauty of where we're at at the moment.

"We're slowly getting players back, improving us and helping us and I think that's giving energy to the group. He was great today, [Bryan] Mbuemo is a handful for any full-back and he handled him really well.". It was a second straight win for Spurs, who beat Elfsborg in the Europa League on Thursday, and their manager hailed the quick recovery. "It's not easy coming here particularly after a big game on Thursday night, I think they handled it really well," he added.
