Jamie Carragher has called on Liverpool to sign a new left-back in January to help club stalwart Andy Robertson, who is "struggling". It remains to be seen if the Reds will be active when the January transfer window opens in a couple of weeks time with Arne Slot's team flying high at the summit of both the Premier League and the Champions League, though some business could take place.

One area of Liverpool's squad that has been scrutinised is left-back, with Robertson, 30, out of form. The Scotland captain was sent off after just 17 minutes in last weekend's 2-2 draw with Fulham and has struggled to hit his usual high standards this season.

The situation is now at a stage where Carragher believes Slot and co must bring in another player in that position when the transfer window reopens. "Robertson is having a tough time and it's a very unforgiving position," Carragher told Sky Sports on Monday night.

"[Against Fulham] He doesn’t look like he's running back fully, he's had a whack then gingerly goes to control the ball before getting a red card. He needs help. Liverpool haven't got any back-up and it's something they need to address in January.". Bournemouth's Milos Kerkez has had a fine season and is said to have attracted admiring glances from elsewhere in the Premier League, including from top clubs.
