Jamie Oliver has spoken frankly about his ‘struggle’ with dyslexia. The world-famous chef, 49, left school with only two GCSEs and struggled before finding fame. He has now admitted that finding work as a chef ‘saved him’. Today it was revealed that Jamie is working on a new Channel 4 documentary that will be ‘hard-hitting’ and focus on the UK’s education system.

An hour in length, the documentary will spotlight the challenges faced in UK schools by children with dyslexia, of which there are 1.3million. Of the incredible new gig, doting dad Jamie said: “It’s no secret I struggled at school — but I was one of the lucky ones. I knew I wanted to be a chef so had somewhere to go, catering school, where I could thrive. The kitchen saved me.”.

According to The Sun, he added: “But not everyone is as lucky. What happens to those who don’t know where to go? We can’t leave kids’ futures up to luck. We need the education system to update, so everyone has the best possible chance in life.”.

More recently, Jamie appeared on screens in his Channel 4 show Jamie's £1 Wonders And Money Saving Meals, a series which aims to help people create enjoyable meals, despite the ongoing cost of living crisis. During the latest episode, Jamie cooked up an array of dishes including spaghetti frittata, piccalilli pork and apple pies, butternut squash dal with paneer, a chicken kebab, laksa and mint chocolate chip pies for dessert.

However, not everyone was a fan of the show. Jamie told viewers that the programme would show that each meal he created would cost £1 for each portion, or less, while some dishes including the chicken kebab would cost around £1.71. But some viewers expressed that the ingredients used in the dishes, including fenugreek, Baharat spice and urad dal lentils are not things that people would have in their everyday cupboards.
