Jamie Oliver's £1 meal series has left viewers believing he's "lost the plot". The celebrity chef appeared on screens in his Channel 4 show Jamie's £1 Wonders And Money Saving Meals, a series which aims to help people create enjoyable meals, despite the ongoing cost of living crisis. During the latest episode, Jamie cooked up an array of dishes including spaghetti frittata, piccalilli pork and apple pies, butternut squash dal with paneer, a chicken kebab, laksa and mint chocolate chip pies for dessert.

Jamie, 49, told viewers that the programme would show that each meal he created would cost £1 for each portion, or less, while some dishes including the chicken kebab would cost around £1.71. But some viewers expressed that the ingredients used in the dishes, including fenugreek, Baharat spice and urad dal lentils are not things that people would have in their every day cupboards.

Some also explained that the meals did not cost as little as Jamie claimed. During the episode, Jamie claimed that the crispy shell on the chicken, which he used plain flour for cost "2p." He explained that the cost came from the average price of each ingredient and quantity from a string of large supermarket chains.

Taking to X, formerly known as Twitter, many fans complained about the episode and questioned Jamie's motives. One said: "So where can I buy 50g of plain flour for £0.03 again? Jamie's £1 wonders - 'wonder' being the appropriate word where we have no idea how any of the meals are possible for the prices mentioned in the meal summary.".
