Jamie Vardy backed Leicester to escape relegation after inspiring the win to end a seven-match winless run at Tottenham and climb out of the Premier League’s relegation zone. 'One hundred per cent, I back every single one of them,' said the 38-year-old veteran captain. 'We all know what is at stake. We want to play nice football but that was three points in the right direction.
'Hopefully it stops the rot we have been in. The lads there battled through for 90 minutes and it is credit too to the manager what he's been doing on the training pitch. 'At times you want to be the team playing the nice football but at times during a game it is not on. We have all stuck together as a team. We knuckled down, stayed together and got the big win.'.
Vardy equalised in the first minute of the second half after Richarlison had given Spurs a first-half lead and Ruud van Nistrelrooy backed the former England striker to keep scoring goals. Van Nistelrooy said: 'If I look at other 30-year-old strikers, and at how he is performing, his fitness levels and how he plays in and out of possession and what a leader he is for us – it is remarkable. The way he looks after himself, for me, implies he can carry on for a long time.'.
Jamie Vardy bagged the crucial leveller less than a minute after the restart as Leicester came from behind to beat Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, climbing out of the bottom three. Vardy celebrated by taunting the Tottenham fans over their failure to ever win a Premier League title, something he managed to do with Leicester in their fairytale season of 2016.
