Jeremy Clarkson thinks Lewis Hamilton may have a very fast Ferrari car to race this year - but has been less than impressed with the Brit's actions in his first week with his new team. There was always going to be a lot of interest in Hamilton's first few days on the job. And after months of waiting fans were finally shown what they wanted to see last month as the first few photos of Hamilton at Maranello were published.
Then came the first image of him wearing a Ferrari race suit before he took to the team's Fiorano track for his maiden test. After his first 30 laps in Scuderia machinery, he went over to the hundreds of Italian fans who had gathered outside the walls of the circuit to wave and show his appreciation for their enthusiasm.
Hamilton's exploits have made plenty of headlines and proven a huge hit on social media. However, former Top Gear host Clarkson is not sure PR should have been the priority as he shared what he has heard about the challenger Ferrari are building for Hamilton and Charles Leclerc to race this year.
"It could be argued that Lewis Hamilton wants a record-breaking eighth world championship before he retires, and moved to Ferrari because he reckons that this year they will have the fastest car," he wrote in his Sun column. "He may have a point. Early indications on the rumour mill suggest it's very fast indeed.
