Joey Barton labels Alan Shearer 'a liar' and 'snake' as bitter feud reignites

Joey Barton has reignited his feud with Alan Shearer by dubbing the Match of the Day pundit "a liar" and "a snake" over their time together at Newcastle in the 2008-09 season. Barton and Shearer did not see eye to eye at St James' Park after Shearer was drafted in as manager towards the end of the season. The pair were reportedly involved in a dressing room confrontation following a 3-0 loss to Liverpool at Anfield, which saw the ex-midfielder sent off.
Newcastle confirmed Barton had been suspended indefinitely following his red card and reports of a bust-up with Shearer, who later welcomed him back into the team, before the Magpies were relegated. Shearer recently spoke about the clash, revealing how Barton had asked him for permission to travel to London to see Everton play in an FA Cup semi-final at Wembley. Barton, however, called him a "liar" and claimed he never asked for permission because he was injured and Everton weren't playing that weekend.
Speaking on his Common Sense podcast, Barton wrote a caption that read: "Shearer was a liar and a snake. If Newcastle didn't appoint him, I believe that group would have survived. Don't be telling porkies Mary Poppins.". He added in the clip: "[Shearer] could bore a glass eye to sleep him! Most boring man ever and he's been telling lies! He's been lying about what happened in the dressing room at Anfield.
"He's either got confused because he's headed (too much) or he's trying to fit the narrative. He said I'd asked him to go to the semi-final. I didn't ask him to go! I just went. We weren't playing that weekend and I was injured. He's obviously got wind of that, which I didn't know about, and he's added that to his story.".
