Jonjo Shelvey has returned home to England on a free transfer to become Burnley's third January signing. Shelvey, 32, has joined Burnley on a short-term deal until the end of the season after his contract with Turkish Süper Lig side Eyüpspor expired recently.

The former England midfielder had a long career in the Premier League with Liverpool, Swansea and Newcastle and wants to help the Clarets return to the top flight. “It feels amazing to get it done,” said Shelvey. “It’s been quite a long process, but it’s all done now and I’m excited for it. I like the club as a whole. Every time I’ve played against Burnley at Turf Moor it’s been tough, but I’m part of this team now and my aim is to do my best to help this club get back into the Premier League, where it belongs.”.

London-born Shelvey became Charlton’s youngest player when he made his debut for them at 16 years and 59 days in 2008. He earned a move to Liverpool in 2010 and spent three seasons at Anfield before joining Swansea and then Newcastle. Shelvey won six full England caps between 2012 and 2015.
