Judd Trump set to smash Ronnie O’Sullivan prize money record

Judd Trump is set to demolish Ronnie O’Sullivan’s record for prize money won in a single season and could surpass the Rocket’s tally as early as this week. It has been another immense season for Trump so far, winning the Shanghai Masters, Saudi Arabia Masters and UK Championship.
His consistency has been thoroughly impressive, with runs to the final of the Xi’an Grand Prix and the Northern Ireland Open as well, along with a string of other deep runs. After his win over Barry Hawkins in the opening round of the Masters this week, Trump has guaranteed himself £1,260,200 in prize money this campaign.
O’Sullivan won five titles last season and set a new record for prize money pocketed in a single campaign at £1,265,500. Trump can surpass that with just one more win, which could come against Ding Junhui in the Masters quarter-final on Friday afternoon.
The world number one will certainly soar past it over the rest of the season, with the potential to dwarf that tally with big events to come. Trump’s three titles this season have come in big-money events, landing £210,000 at the Shanghai Masters, £500,000 at the new ranking event in Saudi Arabia and £250,000 at the UK Championship.
There are plenty of big events still to play, including this week’s Masters which has a top prize of £350,000 for the first time this year. The World Grand Prix also has vastly boosted prize money this season as it moves to Hong Kong for the first time.
