Defending champion Judd Trump and world champion Kyren Wilson are out of the World Open after defeats to Joe O’Connor and Zhou Yuelong respectively in Yushan.
O’Connor made breaks of 64 and 89 to go 2-0 ahead, Trump levelled the game, but then breaks of 51, 69 and 113 gave the Leicester man a huge win.
Zhou made breaks of 120, 73, 54 and 109 to race into a dominant lead, but the world champ hit back with efforts of 118, 100 and 64 to level the game.
Trump and Wilson’s exits follow some other substantial shocks early in the tournament in Yushan, after Mark Selby and Mark Allen both lost their opening games in China.
World number one Trump had won the last two editions of the event and came in as favourite to make it a hat-trick.
