Judge blasts 'inflammatory' tactics of Jay-Z's lawyer in teen rape case

A judge presiding over allegations of child rape involving Beyonce’s husband Jay-Z has slammed the rapper’s lawyer for “inappropriate” tactics. Jay-Z, whose real name is Shawn Carter, has been accused of drugging and sexually assaulting a 13-year-old alongside P-Diddy following the MTV Music Awards in 2000.
The woman involved, which New York Judge Analisa Torres said could remain anonymous for now, first filed her lawsuit against P-Diddy (real name Sean Coombs) in October via her attorney, Tony Buzbee. The lawsuit was later amended in December to include the name of Mr Carter as well. He continues to maintain his innocence.
Following the revelations, Jay-Z’s legal team fought to dismiss the lawsuit and filed several motions that took aim at Mr Buzbee. Mr Carter also accused the lawyer of “blackmail,” which he said on social media made him want to expose Mr Buzbee for fraud instead of settling the case.
“This incident didn’t happen and yet he filed it in court and doubled down in the press,” Mr Carter said. “True Justice is coming. We fight FROM victory, not FOR victory. This was over before it began. This 1-800 lawyer doesn’t realize it yet, but, soon.”.
The New York judge overseeing the case has since slammed the artist’s legal team for targeting Mr Buzbee, and warned them against “inflammatory language and ad hominem attacks.”. “Since Carter’s attorney first appeared in this case seventeen days ago, he has submitted a litany of letters and motions attempting to impugn the character of Plaintiff’s lawyer [Buzbee],” she said.
