Katy Perry narrowly avoided disaster when a transformer exploded over her head while signing autographs outside the El Capitan Entertainment Center in Hollywood on Wednesday. The 40-year-old pop star was just about to make her 13th appearance on Jimmy Kimmel Live! when she headed over to the fan-fence where autograph seekers handed her items to sign below. Katy (born Katheryn Hudson) literally had sparks flying in her long black hair as she turned her back just in time.

Turns out a female member of Perry's KatyCat fanbase accidentally grazed her elbow against the transformer, briefly setting her coat on fire, but there were no injuries - according to TMZ. Once safely inside, the 13-time Grammy nominee made no mention of the explosion to the host during the interview, but she did announce her 76-date The Lifetimes Tour kicks off April 23 at Arena CDMX in Mexico City.
