Panic rattled about Downing Street when the announcement came in September — with Lord Alli’s £18,000 wardrobe and accessories budget for Sir Keir Starmer castrated, who would ensure the quality of the Prime Minister’s new clothes?. While the Labour leader might have had to dip into his own £167,000 salary to kit himself out, neither the public nor party ought to have worried. The opposite appears to be true — Sir Keir has revamped his look.

Certainly, as Starmer swaggered into Kyiv rail station this morning during his first visit to Ukraine as Prime Minister, he leant into the red carpet dressing hack of Hollywood men du jour: a black tee worn with an “easy-peeler” suit jacket, should the wearer wish to reveal carefully gym-sculpted biceps at a moment’s notice.

Also, in case anyone was wondering: No. You were not the only one to think the UK had sent film critic Mark Kermode to meet the President of Ukraine. “It makes him look much more relaxed. The equivalent of Obama rolling up his shirt sleeves back in 2008 to appear more ‘approachable’,” she continues.

“This is why he's the hair king. 10. If I could give higher I would,” reads one. On a more disappointing note earlier this week, another went: “I don't even know where to begin with this one, so here goes. Hair review 7/10. After some really good hair recently, today it's flat. The PM's hair almost symbolises how I've felt about politics today.”.

Though many MPs rely on Kelly Dodge, MBE, to cut their hair, it is said Starmer frequents Camden establishments in his constituency of Holborn and St Pancras. For his first cut after lockdown, he booked into Blue Steel Barbers, a short walk from Tufnell Park.
