The King has shared an emotional video to mark World Cancer Day featuring heartfelt messages from celebrities and charity leaders. It comes after the Princess of Wales and King Charles faced cancer battles last year. The Royal Family said on their Instagram page: “This World Cancer Day, we are sending love to all those navigating a cancer diagnosis – as well as the incredible doctors, nurses, charities and families who work tirelessly to support them.”.
They signposted people to three different organisations — Macmillan Cancer, Maggies Centres and Cancer Research UK. Celebrities including Amy Dowden, Sir Chris Hoy, Fearne Cotton and Victoria Derbyshire feature in the video. GB Cycling legend Sir Chris opened up about his stage 4 prostate cancer diagnosis in October of last year. Strictly star Dowden battled stage-three breast cancer in 2023, undergoing chemotherapy, a mastectomy, and other treatments.
In February 2024, she announced that tests showed she had "no evidence of disease". In a shock announcement on February 5, 2024, Buckingham Palace revealed the King had been diagnosed with an unspecified form of cancer found during treatment for an enlarged prostate. The King chose to share his diagnosis in the hope that it might offer support to others, but opted not to disclose the specific type of cancer he is being treated for, so as not to overshadow the significance of other forms of the disease.
