Bronny James rubbed salt in the wounds of Knicks fans with a late layup in the Lakers' win at Madison Square Garden on Saturday night. James, who is averaging less than a point per game and has mostly played in garbage time this season, got a chance to play with 1:50 left in LA's eventual 128-112 victory. And the son of LeBron James scored just the third basket of his NBA career as he drove to the hoop and scooped the ball off the glass with his left hand.

Bronny, who had been sarcastically serenaded with 'MVP' chants during another cameo appearance on Thursday, also committed a turnover as he tossed a pass out of bounds. The 20-year-old's name was also chanted by the MSG crowd on Saturday as Knicks and Lakers fans alike urged coach JJ Redick to insert him into the game for the final minutes. Ultimately, NBA fans saw his brief appearance and two points as embarrassing for the Knicks.

'How embarrassingly bad did the @nyknicks play you ask? Bronny James scored against them,' one wrote on X. 'We just let Bronny James score in the Garden I’m sick,' another said.

'Bronny James getting court time is the lowest point of this Knicks season,' a third fan added. 'They actually should pack it in. For good.'. A fourth said, 'Bronny James chants in the garden is blasphemy.'. And a fifth sarcastically cracked, 'Where were you when Bronny James shot 100% from the field in his Madison Square Garden debut?'. James' cameo capped off a hugely impressive win for the Lakers, as they beat the Knicks without Anthony Davis in the lineup.

And Bronny's father, who turned 40 on December 30, produced a vintage performance at The Garden as he scored 33 points, grabbed 11 rebounds and 12 assists. It was later that evening that LeBron, Bronny and the James family would learn that Anthony Davis was being dealt to the Dallas Mavericks for Luka Doncic. James angrily hit out at a reporter who said he had grown frustrated with teammate Davis. There has been reporting that James had grown tired of playing alongside Davis, with whom he won a title in 2020.

Bill Reiter, the NBA Insider for CBS, told his channel he heard talk last year within the Lakers organization that James was growing frustrated with Davis, who has battled a series of injuries in Los Angeles. 'It wasn't that AD was going to be traded, it was just something to keep an eye on - that LeBron is frustrated with AD and doesn't think that it is working,' Reiter said of what he heard in 2024.
