Manchester City captain Kyle Walker has sealed a loan switch to AC Milan until the end of the season. The 34-year-old decided on seeking a new challenge last month after a difficult campaign with the Premier League champions. Pep Guardiola revealed in early January that Walker was keen for a fresh start elsewhere and sources close to the player quickly ruled out the potential of the Saudi Pro League.
In interest driven by adviser Zlatan Ibrahimovic, AC beat competition to land the right back and have the option of purchasing him permanently in the summer. Walker wanted to remain in Europe and has aspirations of reaching a century of England caps under new boss Thomas Tuchel.
He is currently seven appearances shy of 100 and the Three Lions have two home World Cup qualifiers against Albania and Latvia in March. Kyle Walker has completed a loan move to Italian giants AC Milan, who have an option to make the transfer permanent.
The veteran defender informed Pep Guardiola of his desire to leave the Etihad earlier this month. His estranged wife served him with divorce papers in October (pictured with three of their children Roman, 12, Riaan, eight, and Reign, six, in December 2023).
AC are paying all of Walker’s sizeable wages through the duration of the loan. Matheus Nunes has been filling in as City’s right back in recent weeks. The defender has been one of the best full backs in the Premier League over the past decade, with the right back shining for Tottenham and Manchester City.
