KYREN WILSON will retire his special Masters waistcoat with a 100 per cent record – as he went back to his roots this week. The reigning world snooker champion overcame long-potting maestro Zhang Anda 6-4 in the first round at Ally Pally. The Warrior, 33, wore a colourful, berries-inspired outfit which was designed by 12-year-old Serena from Surrey following a competition.
Yet the nature of the fabric was causing his wrist to BURN because he cues with his right hand close to his body. Wilson said: "I’d like to say thank you Serena for designing this waistcoat. "I won’t wear it again. It has burnt my thumb a little bit. Any more, it’d have ripped it to pieces.
"I tried to wear this to psyche out Zhang but it didn’t work. It’s great to get the kids involved. I’m happy I was able to wear this. "I’m similar to Ronnie. I drive past my chest so the waistcoat has to be of a certain material, otherwise it will start bleeding.
"I’ve got unfinished business with this tournament. Zhang played fantastic.". "I’ve never seen such a consistent display of long potting. I was petrified every time a ball stuck out because Zhang was potting them.”. BEST FREE BET SIGN UP OFFERS FOR UK BOOKMAKERS.
Zhang, the 2023 International Championship champion, drew level at 3-3 after being 3-1 down and scored a 141 break in frame eight but he could not advance. Kettering’s Wilson sported black hair for this TV appearance – his wife did the hair colouring – even though last weekend he had blond highlights and looked like rapper Eminem’s peroxide-blond alter ego Slim Shady.
