Kyren Wilson has unfinished Masters business as he bids to boost ‘weak CV’

Kyren Wilson may be the world champion but he feels his ‘CV is still quite weak’ and would love to address that at the Masters this week. The Warrior is into the quarter-finals after a 6-4 win over Zhang Anda on Wednesday afternoon, setting up a clash with either Luca Brecel or Chris Wakelin.

It was an unusual match, with Zhang producing the eye-catching snooker, with brilliant long potting and a high break of 141, but Wilson came out on top and progresses to the last eight on Friday. It has been an excellent season so far as world champion for the 33-year-old, winning the Xi’an Grand Prix and the Northern Ireland Open since his Crucible triumph, but he feels there is still a lot of work to do.

His win in Belfast took his ranking title tally to eight, while the closest he has come to the Masters trophy was a runner-up spot back in 2018. Wilson is focussed on improving those numbers, not overly happy with what he has achieved so far and wanting plenty more.
‘I spend so much time away from my family, as everybody does on tour, and I want to make it worthwhile. I want it to be for a good reason,’ he told Eurosport after beating Zhang. ‘I feel like my CV is still quite weak, I want to add more titles to that. The goal is to just keep winning.’.
Outside of that run to the final, where he was beaten by Mark Allen, Wilson has not been beyond a quarter-final at Alexandra Palace and he feels that he has still to show what he can do at the Masters. ‘I feel like I’ve got unfinished business with this tournament,’ he said. ‘I’ve had close matches over the past couple of years here which I’ve just fell short.
