LA fires before and after: Haunting images reveal extent of huge blaze's devastation

Chilling before and after images have revealed what is left of large parts of Los Angeles after multiple wildfires began ravaging the city. The pictures, which include satellite images, show how communities looked before flames erupted around them. In one photograph, dozens of homes could be seen positioned as normal just moments before smoke swept across the landscape.
Huge houses have since been destroyed despite the desperate efforts of firefighters who have been working around the clock to tackle the fires. The wildfires are appearing in several areas of LA, with authorities explaining that high winds and dry conditions are causing them to worsen.
Firefighters said they are struggling to contain a lot of the fires, with reports that the conditions are magnifying across thousands of acres of land. So far, the biggest blaze appears to be in the Pacific Palisades area which is home to many celebrities.
The two biggest wildfires ravaging the Los Angeles area have killed at least 10 people and burned more than 10,000 homes and other structures, officials said as they urged more people to heed evacuation orders after a new blaze ignited and quickly grew. Earlier in the week, hurricane-force winds blew embers, that ignited hillsides.
Right now, it is impossible to quantify the extent of the destruction other than “total devastation and loss”, said officials. Barbara Bruderlin, head of the Malibu Pacific Palisades Chamber of Commerce, said: "There are areas where everything is gone, there isn’t even a stick of wood left, it’s just dirt.".
