Laurence Llewelyn-Bowen really put himself to the test by taking part in Celebrity Bear Hunt, and at one point thought he was having a heart attack. The interior designer is taking part in the new Netflix series, which sees a number of famous faces head to Costa Rica to take on challenges as they learn survival skills. It is hosted by Bear Grylls and Holly Willoughby and the celebrities must try to avoid being caught by the survival expert.
However, the series hasn't been smooth sailing as reports have emerged one celebrity was forced to withdraw due to sustaining an injury. Laurence also endured an alarming incident involving a bungee cord, where he almost drowned. Speaking of the terrifying incident, Laurence revealed: "In my head, I was some kind of Marvel superhero. "Actually, by the time I got to the raft that I was supposed to swim to, it dawned on me quite quickly, I'm actually Granddaddy Pig and getting onto the raft was never going to happen. I got stuck under the raft. I got tangled up in some equipment and stuff and that's when the drowning thing kind of happened.
"But I managed to free myself. I should have stopped at that point and just sort of gathered myself but actually, no, I was then throwing myself into the challenge and then I started blacking out and suddenly, I've got Bear on top of me." While on Times Radio, he added: "I didn't actually have to be resuscitated. "Bear was puckering up, he was bearing down on me like a wet bag of spanners, more than happy to resuscitate me, but actually, I came to, at that point." Laurence thought he was suffering a heart attack as he shared: "It wasn't a pleasant experience at all. I mean, it really, really wasn't. I was blacking out. I thought I was having a heart attack.
"And having then been pumped full of, I think it's about three canisters of oxygen, which is wonderful stuff by the way...but it was a very solitary thing. I always felt that I was quite physically resilient. I have regular medicals. I'm perceived as being reasonably fit for what I am but it did feel slightly like a moment of failure.". Reports emerged that Laurence was leaping from a boat and into a river when the cord became stuck underneath the vessel, causing him to become entangled. Laurence was pulled underwater for several minutes, before members of the production team leapt into action after he reportedly lost consciousness.
Executive producer of the show, Ben Mitchell said: "There was a very scary moment with Laurence." Ben went on to add: "The celebs had to jump off a moving speedboat SAS-style. I think he had quite a hard landing and was a bit shocked in the water. He thought he was having a heart attack.". Like this story?
