Lecce chief 'delighted' with Man Utd transfer talks as he reveals Patrick Dorgu plan

Leece president Saverio Sticchi Damiani has confirmed they've met with Manchester United to discuss a move for Patrick Dorgu - but insists they do not want to sell. The Red Devils have set their sights on Dorgu this month and have begun discussions with the Serie A outfit. The Danish defender, currently impressing in Italy, has emerged as a top target for United as they look to bring in players who will aid Ruben Amorim's new system.
Dorgu is viewed as a perfect fit for the 3-4-3 philosophy that has been implemented at Old Trafford with a number of the current squad unable to fulfil the role. United officials have travelled to Italy to open discussions with Lecce regarding a move for Dorgu. It is understood that United are willing to increase their initial offer to €30million (£24m). The Italian club though are holding out for €40m (£32m) - although a compromise for €35m (£28m) could be reached.
The Lecce president was thrilled to have the Manchester outfit interested, but maintained they want to keep their player. He told Sky Sports: "We met with Man Utd and we told them that our plan is to keep our key players, including Patrick Dorgu. We’re delighted to have Man Utd here to make a proposal but our target to stay in Serie A is crucial.".
United have not been shrewd in the transfer market but are looking to rid of that reputation. Failing to get a deal over the line will be viewed as a huge miss, especially given their need to add more quality to their ranks. Amorim has delivered frank assessments of his team and last month claimed they "had not a lot of quality but a lot of heart". The Red Devils were beaten 3-1 by Brighton on Sunday as their flaws continue to be exposed.
