Dominic Calvert-Lewin has been told if he can reach 10 Premier League goals then he can fire Everton to safety. The Toffees front man bagged his first goal since September as he helped David Moyes’ side beat Tottenham 3-2 on Sunday. It was a vital win for the Blues in their bid to beat the drop as they moved four points clear of the relegation zone.

It was also a timely boost for new boss Moyes to see the misfiring Calvert-Lewin back to scoring after 16 games without a goal. Now former Everton striker Tony Cottee is hopeful Calvert-Lewin can find some consistency to help his old club stay in the Premier League.

“If he starts scoring goals, they'll stay in the Premier League,” Cottee said, speaking exclusively to Mirror Football via BetSelect. “I always say you need someone to score 10 Premier League goals. That guarantees that that club stays in the Premier League. If Calvert Lewin can get fit, and get the 10, 12 Premier League goals, Everton will stay up, no problem at all.”.

Cottee believes Moyes can get the best out of Calvert-Lewin, too. The striker, who spent six years at Goodison Park between 1988 and 1994, is a fan of the Scot. He said: “Every player is an individual. You've got to sit him down, you've got to talk to him. I'm sure Moyes would have done this. He's a very good man manager.

“You call him in the office to find out what's going wrong. What can we change to help you? Is there something we can do? Training-wise, anything, whatever. We need you fit. “Whether he's got six months left or six years left, you need Calvert Lewin to be in that team to lead the line. He's their main man.”.
