AWARD-winning author Stephen King is the latest name to call for the Oscars to be cancelled in the wake of the devastating Los Angeles wildfires. The Academy Award-winning star added his voice to the growing list in the US for the biggest night in Hollywood to not go ahead.
“Not voting in the Oscars this year,” he wrote on Bluesky, the social platform he joined after ditching X recently. “IMHO they should cancel them. No glitz with Los Angeles on fire.”. Golden Globes winning Hacks star Jean Smart had suggested cancelling the three hour show, which draws hundreds of millions of viewers.
Smart suggested donating “the revenue they would have gathered to the victims of the fires and the firefighters.”. Social media has been flooded with people backing calls to postpone or scrap this year's star-studded event. Currently the Academy is reviewing its show programme and presentation for the 2025 Oscars ceremony, which is set to take place on March 2.
Bosses are looking at ways to raise revenues and awareness to assist victims of the biggest natural disaster in LA's history. The Awards have not been postponed. And executives will do their utmost to make sure they run on time. Millions of dollars of advertising deals are in place as well as schedule planning for the stars' attendance.
