Toto Wolff suggested Mercedes could offer Lewis Hamilton a return to the fold once his time with Ferrari comes to its end. After 12 seasons and 14 titles across the drivers' and constructors' championships, F1's most successful ever racer and team partnership comes to an end. Hamilton decided before the 2024 season even began that his future lies with Ferrari.
He will race for the Italians for the first time as a 40-year-old and hopes to end his career with another title success with the Scuderia. The Brit has signed a multi-year contract, but still he is now in the twilight of his remarkable F1 career. During his long spell as a Mercedes driver, Hamilton has built plenty of important personal relationships. That includes with team principal Wolff and his wife, F1 Academy managing director Susie.
And the Austrian seems confident that the good relationship between them will continue, even if they are now working for direct rivals. More than that, Wolff hinted that there may be another chapter to come in the story of Hamilton's association with Mercedes.
He said: "There is no such thing in an end to the relationship that Mercedes has with Lewis, neither what we as a team have nor I and Susie personally. On the contrary. I think Lewis has decided to do something else for the last part of his career, which I understand - or I can understand.
