Libertines’ Pete Doherty lands unlikely job at French university despite never completing his degree

HE dropped out of uni 26 years ago and became the raucous face of Noughties music in the UK. But Libertines frontman Pete Doherty is now going back to school — not as a student, but as a lecturer. The Can’t Stand Me Now singer said: “I was asked by a French university, actually, to lecture - something to do with fame and social media - and I didn’t really feel I was equipped.
“But I had already cashed the cheque, so I’m going to have to do something. “I’ve got a year and a half to write four, 45 minute essays, so I might have to get myself a phone. I’ll do my best to educate and entertain. “But I’ll be strict with the coursework. Anyone listening who thinks it’s going to be a breeze doesn’t know Professor Doherty.”.
He spent a year studying English Literature at the University of London as a teenager but is now thinking of enrolling in another degree. Speaking on Tracks of My Years, which will air during Vernon Kay's Radio 2 show each day this week, he said: “I’d love to do that.
"I think about that quite a lot. "I don’t think I’ve got the time right now. “To actually give myself to full time study, not yet, not while I’m still on tour. "But I do think about that.”.
