After almost five months away LIV Golf makes a reutrn this week, and six new names added to the roster over the offseason will take to the course in this week's opener in Saudi Arabia. LIV's maiden event of 2025 will take place at Riyadh Golf Club, with the likes of Jon Rahm, Bryson DeChambeau and Brooks Koepka all returning to action. They will do so alongside some fresh faces though, with the breakaway circuit adding to their player list over recent months.
The relegation of five players led to some former players in Kalle Samooja, Kieran Vincent and Scott Vincent losing their places, giving stars from elsewhere the chance to forge a career on the LIV setup. The latest signing on the eve of the season saw 2024 champion Rahm complete his team, by bringing in Tom McKibbin. Northern Irishman McKibbin is one of European golf's rising stars, and turned down a maiden full season on the PGA Tour last month to make the Saudi switch.
Welcoming his new signing, Rahm said: "Tom is used to traveling the world, which I think is a big key. One of the reasons why maybe Caleb had not a good year last year compared to his standards was the fact that he had to travel so much, and he wasn’t used to it. "Tom is definitely used to it. The DP World Tour, they definitely are able to travel a lot. So, having a young incredible talent with a bright future that’s used to the travel is something very, very special. On paper, we could be even stronger this year than we were last year.
"And I think coming into the Team Championship, we’re definitely going to be stronger than we were last year." Legion XIII are not the only team adding a fresh face to their squad, with Bubba Watson and the RangeGoats bringing in Ben Campbell, who impressed on the Asian Tour last year. For all the latest on news, politics, sports, and showbiz from the USA, go to The Mirror US. Campbell is no stranger to LIV, having acted as an injury reserve during the 2024 season. This year however he has cemented a permeant spot, one he is thankful for. “It’s been great so far," he told the New Zealand Herald. "We’ve had a couple of team dinners and I get along well with the guys.
"I’ve known Peter Uihlein for a while and get along well with Pete and have spent a bit of time with Matt and I get along well with them which obviously makes a massive help.” Cleeks GC also have a new name on their player list after former Promotions winner Kalle Samooja was relegated last September. Martin Kaymer's team have stuck with their European theme, bringing in Danish youngster Frederik Kjettrup. The 25-year-old turned professional in 2024, and had a hot start to his career, winning three times on the PGA Tour Americas, having also enjoyed success a college level in the United States.
Over on the Fireballs Sergio Garcia has added another young Spaniard to his team following the departure of Eugenio Lopez-Chacharra. Luis Masaveu will get his first taste of the LIV setup later this week, with the 22-year-old another young star looking to kickstart his career with the breakaway league. One of the first franchises to do business in the offseason was the Iron Heads, who have added the first South Korean in LIV's history in Yubin Jang to their roster ahead of the league's maiden trip to his home nation later this year. And finally another player who make their debut in the Saudi capital this week is Max (Chieh-po) Lee, who played his way onto the circuit after winning LIV Promotions in December.
