Luke Littler says he is not expecting any more friendly fist bumps when he returns to the oche to face Michael van Gerwen in the World Darts Championship final. The 17-year-old sensation booked his place in the final for a second year on the spin with a comprehensive 6-1 victory over the dangerous Stephen Bunting in the last four.

All eyes have been on Littler after Luke Humphries, the defending champion, was knocked out by Peter Wright in the last-16 phase at London’s Alexandra Palace. Three-time champion Van Gerwen overcame Chris Dobey in convincing fashion to secure progression, also winning 6-1 in a one-sided semi-final, and the stage is set for what promises to be a thrilling showdown in the capital.

But Littler has been the bookmakers’ favourite throughout the tournament and remains so ahead of tonight’s eagerly anticipated contest, with the teenager averaging 105.48 in his semi-final with Bunting. Asked for his reaction after reaching back-to-back finals, Littler told talkSPORT: ‘I can’t believe I’ve done it.

‘But then again, I’ve got to think about my performances leading up to the final and they’ve been excellent and I’m really happy with the way I’m playing.’. On the suggestion he didn’t quite hit top gear versus Bunting, the youngster replied: ‘I think I did, just.

‘I couldn’t switch the gaze because Stephen was right behind me throughout the game. ‘He missed a fair few doubles tonight which I’m pleased with and then I pounced on it.’. To view this video please enable JavaScript, and consider upgrading to a web browser that supports HTML5 video.
